Mom’s Sugar Cookies
My mom’s classic and simple sugar cookie recipe. This is the real, if not singular, taste of Christmas for me. It isn’t the holidays without a batch of these in the freezer, just so they don’t get completely devoured in a day.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup butter
- 1 Cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 ½ Cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
Directions
Step 1
Mix butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.
Step 2
Heat oven to 400°. Roll dough 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes or until very lightly golden brown.
Icing:
Combine powdered sugar and water until you reach the proper consistency. You can use Karo corn syrup for a different thickness and sweetness to the frosting. You can also try to add some vanilla to the frosting if you like.
